Did you know that: - Cancer is still the leading cause of death from disease among U.S. Children. - Cure rates for some pediatric cancers are below 50% and 250 children die from cancer daily. - Everyday 87 children are diagnosed with cancer. - 90% of childhood cancer patients will have long lasting chronic conditions from treatment
Please join us in our mission to END Childhood Cancer! ABOUT GREATER ALTITUDES FOUNDATION Greater Altitudes Foundation was founded in 2017 by Cortney Collins, after her son Cayson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia a month before his third birthday. Thrust into the world of pediatric cancer, she began to discover the lack of awareness, funding, and support to aid in the fight to save our children facing this terrible disease.

June 28, 2017 I received the heartbreaking news that my 3 year old son, Cayson, had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). With no other symptom but a stomach ache, his pediatrician ran a blood test and confirmed a fear that I never saw coming. The next week was a whirlwind; for a child who had never had more than one dose of antibiotics was suddenly inpatient at one of the most renowned hospitals in the country, and was being treated for one of the most aggressive cancers there was. Chemotherapy was started immediately, and after developing our treatment plan and knowing our specific diagnosis, we were released home to start our 2.5 year battle, returning to the hospital at least every other day.

Cayson endured nightly chemotherapy pills, at home administered chemo through his port, and weekly clinic visits for chemotherapy, spinal taps, and infusions at Texas Children’s Hospital. Each therapy drug comes with its lengthy list of side effects that he will continue to battle throughout his life, such as learning disabilities, hearing loss, cardiac complications, etc. but they inevitably saved him. Some of the kiddos he played on the clinic floor with weren’t so lucky. Cayson was “lucky” enough to be diagnosed with the one cancer, amongst 12, that was considered curable. But, this is not enough.

As I began to learn about this disease, the treatment, and its prognosis, I realized how little progress is being made in the world of pediatric cancer, and just how prevalent it was. So from that, Greater Altitudes Foundation was formed with the intent to increase awareness, and support pediatric cancer research and treatment initiatives through philanthropic events.
